What...

OK, since it is a holiday weekend, this LIST fact is going to be a quiz on travel. There are 3 questions and question #3 is a LIST fact. All questions are based on taking a long trip with 3 kids and the grandmother.

1) How many miles would we try to travel in one day...

2) How many miles would we travel and/or how long would we go between rest stops...

3) and now the LIST fact
When a child asks you how much longer is it before we get their, you always say...

As always, try to think of the answers before you leave a comment since someone may have already posted the answers.

Ahh, vacation trips... (mmmfph)

Ooo, I know, I know! (And this is timely for me b/c Walter and I are leaving tomorrow for a road trip.)

1) 500 miles
2) Two hours
3) You look at your watch thoughtfully, then you make up a plausible, concrete number, like, "37 minutes."

Yea Alison

OK, the answers you gave were correct but there are some further details.
#1 yes, 500 miles was the limit and we were happy to get that.

#2 Yes, 2 hours was the top limit. We tried to go 100 miles and/or 1 1/2 to 2 hours before a rest stop. This was usually possible but took some doing with three different kid personalities.
Do you remember that your PaPa would only go 1 hour inbetween rest stops and would always try to stop at a... what... And, why would he always stop at this place...
Additionally, rest stop would usually take 20+ minutes.

#3 Yes, and here are the details of this LIST fact. This is an example of AN answer instead of THE answer.
The child would be antsy and what to know how much longer was it going to be. They didn't really want to know it was going to be say 4 more hours.
Any answer I gave had to be under the hour time frame because the "hour" word was seen as a long time. So, I usually started at 45 minutes and decreased it slightly over the course of the day or the time inbetween rest stops. BUT I had to sell it. If it was too casual, one of you guys would have caught on. Thus the looking at the watch and the thoughtful look.
(By the way, the Mom would usually roll her eyes and mutter under her breath something like "Lee, you shouldn't lie to the children. How do you expect to show or teach honesty and truthfullness if you just tell them any time, and...".)

Any of you remember where PaPa always stopped and why...

You told me yesterday, so this is not a fair answer, but just in case anybody new is reading and wants to know, the answer is McDonalds. You said it's because they had playgrounds, but I think it was because I wanted to go there, and I have always been everyone's favorite.
