Heritage

Now, for a slight change of pace, this is going to be one of several "heritage or roots" fact LISTS. Let's start with an easy one.

Write phonetically the pronunciations of the words;
battery
library
lawn mower
washing
whistle

As always, if any of your IMF team is... wait... I mean, be sure you have your answers before you go to the comments in case someone has already posted. Also, there could be more than one way to write the answers.

And just to let you know how lame we are, I need to point out that Walter and I are sitting side by side on hotel room beds right now, independently answering this quiz.

OK, all of you are either right or very close. The "official" pronunciations are:

(Items 1 and 2 are from Uncle Jimmy)
Ba' tree
Lie' berry or lie' barry

(Item 3 we think is from Alison)
Lawn' mahmer

(Item 4 is from several Piepmeiers like PawPaw and Aunt Ester)
Warshing (like dish warsher and North Warshington Ave)

(And Item 5 is from The Mom...)
Whees' tell

Isn't it interesting that all of you with all the education and this has sunk into your subconcious. You may find yourself using these pronunciations later in life without really meaning to at the time. Amazing how your heritage sticks with you. (He He He)
